Ventilation blood gases and ventilators
The videos about ventilation cover physiology of ventilation and arterial blood gases and then move on to practical use of the Cavidion PB 980 ventilator There is also information about using the new Mindray ventilators, the Drager portable and theatre ventilators and the LTV ventilator
Equipment use
This section includes videos about the use of the Volume view cardiac output monitor both in terms of set up and how it works THERE IS ALSO INFORMATION ABOUT THE BRAUN AND ALARIS SYRINGE PUMPS as well as the Volumetric pump and some QRGs about other equipment. There is also a video about the Waters and AMBU bags Information about our ventilators is covered in the separate ‘topics around ventilation’, see above.
Practical procedures and examination (including CVC placement)
These videos cover practical procedures including the use of LocSSIPs (Local safety standards for invasive procedures). Watching the LocSSIP video is compulsory if you are going to place a CVC on our unit. The examination section covers a description of the use of the Glasgow Coma Scale as well as a new section on how to examine a patient with a subarachnoid haemorrhage to link with our new charts.
Sedation and analgesia (including learning slides and test with certificate)
This section has a series of five slide presentations about analgesic and sedative drugs commonly used on our unit and processes that we use to manage sedation and analgesia on our unit to assess and manage the needs of our patients
Communication and patient experience/rehabilitation
This section we plan to have information provided by the rehab teams
Insulin calculator and insulin management
This section provides a link to an explanation of the insulin calculator used to establish the dose of insulin to be given to our patients and has additional sections on insulin use and safety
Free flaps and other post op care
Section currently provides teaching about the management of free flaps and other aspects of reconstructive surgery including application of medical leaches
